How to export a transcript from Otter.ai

Otter exports as text with speaker names and timestamps, which is all we need.

  1. 1Open the conversation in Otter.
  2. 2Use the three-dot menu and choose Export.
  3. 3Pick TXT or DOCX, and keep both "Include speaker names" and "Include timestamps" switched on.
  4. 4Download the file.

Leaving speaker names off makes the transcript unusable here — we cannot tell which turns are yours.

Common questions

Which Otter export format should I use?
TXT or DOCX, with both "Include speaker names" and "Include timestamps" switched on. Speaker names are not optional — without them nothing can tell which turns are yours.
Does Otter keep timestamps?
Yes, if you leave the option enabled on export. Keeping them means speaking pace can be measured rather than guessed at.
