How to get the transcript from a Webex meeting

Webex produces a transcript alongside a cloud recording. Here is where the host finds it.

  1. 1Sign in to your Webex site and open Recordings.
  2. 2Open the recording for the meeting you want.
  3. 3Look for the transcript or captions alongside the recording and download it — usually as VTT.
  4. 4Upload the file, or open it in any text editor and paste the contents.

Transcription has to have been switched on for the meeting, and in most organisations only the host can reach the recording. If you were not the host, ask them for the VTT file rather than the video.

Common questions

Why is there no transcript for my Webex meeting?
Almost always because the meeting was not cloud-recorded, or because transcription was not enabled for the site. Both are set before the meeting starts, so a transcript cannot be generated after the fact from a local recording.
Can I get the transcript if I was not the host?
Usually not directly — recordings sit in the host’s library. Asking for the VTT file is a smaller request than asking for the recording, and it is the only part needed here.
